Spencer hurt himself.. again.

As you have already heard, or maybe not heard, Spencer hurt his knee while we were in San Diego last weekend. He was in the ocean, and a large wave came and hit his knee wrong, and Spencer thinks that he dislocated it, and put it back in socket while he was in the water. Some men carried him out of the water, and quickly about 6 lifeguards showed up. They put a splint on it (made out of cardboard and foam) and asked him some questions.

We were able to come home the next day (last Sunday) and Monday morning we took him into Orthopedics Northeast here in Warsaw to see Doctor Williams and his PA. We told them Spencer’s story, and his medical history (that this happened twice two years ago, and the doctors there said that he had a torn Meniscus, a ruptured MCL and a bruised bone). They were not able to tell us anything that day because Spencer had excessive swelling, but they assumed from Spencer’s history, that it was probably the Meniscus and that he would probably have to have surgery.

On Wednesday Spencer had an MRI in the afternoon, and today (Thursday) he went back the doctor. We were very disappointed when the doctors told us that the MRI showed nothing obvious, and they said they were very confused when they found the torn Meniscus in tact. A Meniscus does not heal, it wears away over time, and so if Spencer was told a couple years ago that it was torn, it should still be torn.

The PA, Karen, felt around Spencer’s knee a little, and twisted it slightly to see if she could feel anything, but this hurt Spencer quite a bit. The PA went out of the office room for just a minute, and Spencer complained to me that he was getting very hot, and he started to turn pail. Soon the doctors returned, and Dr. Williams started talking to Spencer and asking questions, but Spencer was just getting more and more pail. He almost past out, but with help of the nurses we were able to revive him. :) He’s fine, of course, I just think that he was a little shocked at how badly his knee hurt in that moment. They gave Spencer a Cortisone shot to bring down the swelling, but that is all they could do for him right now.

We scheduled a follow-up appointment for 11 days from now, where they will feel around his knee again and see if Spencer will need surgery. So for now, Spencer will ice his knee to get rid of the swelling. He can’t work, since he can barely bend his leg, and can’t put full weight on it.

In the mean time, please keep Spencer in your prayers. He doesn’t enjoy sitting around and doing nothing. That he would stay patient with this injury and that we would learn soon what God has planned for him Please also pray for me as I try to help Spencer in any way that I can.

An orphaned baby skunk “Matilda”.

After her mom died, Matilda’s brother was found and taken to Coast & Canyon Wildlife Rehabilitation in Malibu, California for care. The following day, sweet little hungry Matilda was found wandering in the same yard looking for her family. Her finder said “all she wants to do is cuddle.” She’s now in an incubator at Coast & Canyon ~ safe, warm and snuggled up with her brother.

Resolutions

You always hear people speak of their New Years Resolutions. I am usually one of those people, but some how, at the end of the year, I find myself forgetting what resolution I had last year, and making the same exact one.

This year, I am not going to make one. Not really anyways. A resolution is a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something. That’s basically like saying you are going to do something amazing that year, and then never try.

A goal is the result or achievement toward which effort is directed;aim; end. I would prefer to say that I am making an effort to achieve goal(s) that I have.

This year, my goals would be to finish school with fairly good grades. Take lots of walks and enjoy the nature around me. Take pictures with the camera my Hubby got me for Christmas. Take my husband on crazy adventures that I know he wants to do, which will probably mean sacrificing things that I want to do. Read books that will encourage me, make me cry, make me laugh, and make me think more than I usually do.

I want to be adventurous and brave. I should not be afraid to try things, and yet I hesitate on almost everything. Why do I hold back?

Throw me off a plane with a parachute attached to my back!

(Ha… maybe we’ll take this a small step at a time).

But my point is, that I want to live my life, travel, and have fun before I settle down too much. I hear of a lot of people who get married, and then they either finish school, or find a new job, and then they have kids and don’t get a chance to do the things that they dreamed of doing.

Get me out of here! I want to move to California. City, country, and the Ocean. Sounds good to me! I can do these crazy things as a married woman. Actually, it would be way more fun with Spencer by my side.

First step on my list: Finish school.

We are still alive, I just wanted whoever reads this to know that.

It has been so long since I have written, but it has also been a very busy couple of months.

Not long after school started for me, Spencer got a job at a hatchery, and started work the first week of September. Only a couple days after he started work, I had a job interview at a place that I had blindly sent my resume to. She hired me on the spot, and asked me to start work the next day. I did, knowing that I should accept the opportunity for an office assistant job, because I was not sure when I would get another chance. I quickly quit my job at Ruby Tuesday, giving them my two weeks notice, but telling them that I could only work one day a week. My manager was kind, and found people to cover for me for the next couple weeks.

Two days after I worked at Board of Realtors, I received a call from Tom Farms, a place that I had interviewed at about three weeks before, and was waiting for a call. They wanted me to come in for another interview.. I had no idea what to do, so I basically said no, hung up, and regretted it for the next hour. This was a job that I wanted SO BAD. I called her back and apologized, telling her that I needed to talk to my husband before I made any hasty decisions.

I talked to Spencer later that day, and we decided that I have been waiting for a job like this for over a year. As soon as I walked into that office for my first interview, I felt completely comfortable, and the people there are so kind. I was happy, and it was so easy to talk to them. Probably the best interview I have ever had. (and I have had quite a few)

I called Kassi back, and we met the following Thursday. I met Kip, the owner of the business, and everything went well. She called me back the next day and told me I had another job, if I wanted it.

The following Monday I put in my two weeks at Board of Realtors, and my boss understood that in this time of my life, I needed to do what was best for me and my husband. Two weeks later, I started at Tom Farms, and so far, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I am just finishing up my third week.

So what is Tom Farms? Well, it’s a farming business! Yep, me, farming.. with cows, and corn, and beans..

But I just work in the office, doing the background stuff. But, since I’ve been in the office, I’ve been doing odd jobs, such as painting an office, and organizing files.. its pretty fun! In the next couple weeks, the two ladies I work with/for will be moving to a back office, and I will be like a receptionist, taking phone calls, greeting people when they come in, and doing anything Kassi and Missy need me to do. I LOVE IT. And, they got me a computer with a 23” screen.. yeah, its pretty awesome!

I work around 45 hours a week, and on top of that, I’m still in school with 18 credit hours, so my social life is very non-existing.

What about Spencer in all this? Well he has been very helpful, and a great husband. Sometimes he cooks, and he has cleaned the house (doing dishes and laundry) quite often. Sometimes he has painting side jobs, and that takes up a lot of his time, but he likes it, and I can get some of my school work done while he is gone.

We still spend a lot of time together on weekends, watching lots of movies. If you want to know anything about a movie, you can ask us, we’ve probably seen it. :)
Sometimes we go on little trips, like a couple weeks ago we went camping because the weather was nice. In a couple weeks we are going to see the Civil Wars with Phil and Shiloh, which we are very excited about. I can’t wait to get away! This trip is definitely needed, for both Spencer and I. We also can’t wait for Thanksgiving.. I am off school for a week, since I don’t get Fall Break.

Selling our beauty!

Spencer and I are selling our red canoe (that we never got a chance to name) for $700. If you would like to buy it, please contact us! We would like to get it out of here ASAP. I think we have it on e-bay, as well as Craigslist South Bend.

We repainted it completely, and put new screw and stuff it in to make it much better. It used to be a brownish/yellow (you can see this if you scroll down the page to one of my first posts).

Its crazy to think that summer is over. I think it was the shortest summer of my life, and yet, I can’t believe how many things happened.

I got married!

I saw my closest friends

and I settled into my first home since last year, with my wonderful Husband.

Often I take for granted the life I was given. I am selfish in thinking that I don’t have enough, but really, I have everything I need. I am so blessed with the people that are in my life, having a job, and some money to go to school.

Speaking of such, I have a full load this year!

This week has been a tough week. On Sunday Spencer told me that we had to get rid of Bella because his allergies were really bothering him. It wasn’t just Bella, its the carpet, and Indiana, but Bella wasn’t helping, so on Monday, someone came to take her to a new home. They have two kids, not too young, and the mom seemed very nice, so I think she is doing well.

I sure enjoyed her while we had her, and I do miss her too.

The same day, I went to the doctor with pain in my back, and stomach. I sat in the waiting room, for too long, and talked to the doctor for a few minutes, and then got a prescription, and left. A couple hours later, Spencer took me to the ER with severe pain in my back, and it hurt so bad, that it was hard to breathe.

I waited in the ER for one hour! Can you believe that!? I mean, that may not seem long, but its an Emergency room, you think that you would get seen right away, especially if it is very noticeable that you are in a lot of pain…

Anyways, I was finally seen, and they questioned me a little, took blood, and put an IV in my arm and gave me pain meds. It worked very well. Then they just put a lot of liquids in me, and soon, I felt a lot better.

I have a UTI, and it was affecting my kidneys. It is NOT something I ever want to go through again.

But I waited too long.. if it does happen again, I won’t be so dumb and wait to go to the doctor. :)

Spencer and I got a kitten! Her name is Bella. We have only had her for 24 hours, and love her to death. We think she is about 5 weeks old. She is already litter box trained, and eats dry food.

She loves to play, and her little claws only hurt a little. :) She’s not quite used to being away from her family yet, so she follows me everywhere when I’m at home, or gets scared and starts meowing (Spencer calls it squeaking) when I leave the room.

She sure is adorable! :)

There was quite a big storm on July 22. They said that it was just a severe thunder storm, but it was more like a tornado.

I was on my way home from my Grandparents when it hit. I had to cross the highway, where all the stop lights went out, so it was complete chaos, plus a down-pore. So I took a detour, and got home a little later.

Our place was fine, except that our power was out for two days, on the hottest days of the year. (100+ degree weather)

We stayed at my grandparents the night the power came back on. (Saturday night, the power went out Friday).

Basically the most exciting thing that’s happened in a while.

Last week was good. These are some of the events that happened:

We got a canoe for our wedding. I had to pressure wash it, and now its beautiful! (We might paint it red though)

Spencer got a scratch on his eye from working, I made Lemon/Tomato Tilapia (I improvised, and it was yummy).

Sam Lee came to visit and he made us some great Korean food, then took a picture of Spencer shoving it in my mouth. :)

Then we went and watched Harry Potter. Good movie.
